The largest national park in Tanzania located about 130 kilometers from Iringa the last city before you get to the Park and, about 625kms from the city of Dar-es-salaam, the park’s ecosystem includes Rungwa, Kizigo, Muhesi, ecosystem and covers more than 45000km2. The Great Ruaha River, which flows along its south-eastern margin is, where the name of the park is derived from originated from the Hehe tribe meaning “River”. The park's history dates back to 1910 when it was established as a Game Reserve then the name was changed to Rungwa Game reserve in 1946. Ruaha is believed to have a high concentration of elephants than any National Park in East Africa. It is also a place where, magnificent mammals like Kudu, Sable, and Roan antelopes can easily be spotted in Miombo woodland. The park is also a habitat for endangered wild dogs.
Mikumi National Park or you can call it The transit lounge park due to its location on the main T1 road that connects the country with our neighbors DRC Congo, Zambia, Mozambique, Malawi, and through into Southern Africa! About 3000 square kilometers of lash woodland connects with the great Nyerere National park in the south. Animal migrates between these two wildlife sanctuaries making it one of the largest free-roaming wildlife ecosystems in East Africa.
Once called Selous Game Reserve, Nyerere National Park is probably Africa's largest National park and one of the best game areas in Africa. An area of about 55,000 square kilometers, is amongst the largest protected areas in Africa that are still undisturbed by humans. The beauty of the park is coupled with safari activities such as boating, walking and fly camping, and game driving in thriving wildlife areas. This is an outrageously good safari park and an essential component of any southern circuit itinerary. The sheer volume of game in the Selous is outstanding with statistics putting most parks in Africa to shame. Elephant, buffalo, and lion are ‘arguably’ found in no greater numbers year round anywhere on the planet.
